Responsibilities Incumbent assists provider staff of adult and pediatric primary care clinic in providing health care to clinic population and leadership to Medical Assistants to ensure efficient clinic flow and excellent patient care and customer service. Duties Include but are not limited to: Interview patients regarding health problems and maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Take vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse, etc. Performs point of service care such as hemoglobin, blood sugars, urine tests, etc. and CLIA waived back office labs. Explain health education materials with written and video health education materials specific to patients' clinical need(s) i.e.; diabetes, ob/gyn, family planning, safety, domestic violence, HIV, etc. Assist in medical emergencies under provider guidance to include calling 911, starting IVs, setting up oxygen, pulse ox and administering medication. Accurately record services provided in patients chart using EHR. Perform in-clinic procedures, such as urine cath, visual acuity, audiometry, etc. Provides immunizations, PPD placements and readings, breathing treatments, oral, injectable and topical medications as ordered by providers and per protocol. Performs various types of wound care to include packing under direction of provider. Assist with examinations and translate for providers as needed. Set up rooms for patients and specialists when necessary. Provide pregnancy counseling according to policy and procedures. Serve as resource for other medical assistants answer questions regarding patient care procedures. Help monitor clinic flow and coordinate with provider, nursing and front desk staff. Train medical assistants and volunteer staff to clinic flow, and to entry of patient information in the electronic medical record. Assess competencies. Communicate with nursing supervisor and clearly disseminate information to Medical Assistant staff. Oversee overall inventory of supplies and forms as needed to function on a day to day basis. Collect and process paperwork and specimen samples as requested by provider. Process screening tests such as hematocrits, RUA's, card pregnancy test, FIT, etc., including documentation of results. Perform these functions when floating to other sites and serving as lab back up. Other duties as needed with Venice Family Clinic. Qualifications Current California LVN license (IV Certified). Experience working with pediatric population with skill in starting IVs, urinary catheterization and routine immunizations. Effective oral and written bilingual English/Spanish communication skills. Ability to follow through on assignments, while helping to facilitate the organization, prioritization, and completion of all clinic tasks through collaboration with other clinic staff. Interpersonal skills to deal with patients, staff and volunteers of diverse educational, economic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to pass Basic Health Worker course and obtain certificate. Ability to perform phlebotomy on adults, children and infants. Basic lab procedures such as pregnancy tests, UA, etc. Ability to take direction from RN and medical providers and ability to work collaboratively with all other staff members. Articulates clearly with patients over the phone and in person. Current BCLS/CPR card and ability to assist in a medical emergency. Ability to prioritize medical problems within scope of job responsibilities. Ability to proactively problem solve. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures and ability to follow same. Ability to work in busy setting with conflicting demands. Skill at working independently and prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Knowledge of health education, public health, and medical terminology.
